Serena Maneesh! SM-2 and SXSW

So Serena Maneesh is finally releasing the long-awaited SM-2: Abyss in B minor on March 23rd. From what I've heard so far, they still have My Bloody Valentine-sounding vocals and dreampop ambience, but the music is a little more sporadic, especially on the single I hear some Health influence. These aren't just drawn out Shoegaze tunes, they're pop songs. And they recorded it in a cave. Anyway, see for yourself, you can stream the whole thing right here!

And check out this video for the single...

Finally, here's how to see them during SXSW:
Thursday around 11AM at Cedar Street RSVP
Thursday after 12Pm at East End Tattoo FREE
Friday at 1AM at the Pure Volume house RSVP
Friday at 4PM at Waterloo Records FREE

Elliott Frazier of Ringo Deathstarr came down to San Marcos on Friday and talked to us about the new LP, guitars, Nirvana, black magic, his time in England, bands from Mexico and much more.

Ringo Deathstarr live at the Mohawk

Miranda and I went to see Ringo Deathstarr, local Austin Shoegaze band, at the Mohawk last Thursday, and I was reminded why these guys are my number one pick out of Austin right now.

There was more time between songs than usual -- the band was short on guitars and had to deal with retuning between songs -- but they blared their signature wall of sound as loud and as surrounding as ever.

"If it's loud enough in the right room, it kind of puts you in a trance," said Elliott Frazier, singer/guitar player/songwriter.

I hadn't heard the songs off the the latest 7" live, but everything else was familiar. The band told the crowd that this would probably be their last time "playing the same old songs" since their first full length LP is in the works.
